      AT HOME

Kettle, cup, five minutes. The full flavour of a specialty single origin without getting the grinder out — for the mornings that don't wait.

      TRAVELLING

Hotel kettles and aeroplane trays are no reason for bad coffee. A few bags in the wash kit and you're covered, wherever the week takes you.

      OUTDOORS

Anywhere you can boil water — the beach, the hillside, the back of the van. Light to carry, sealed until you need it, nothing to clean.

      How to brew.

      Pour.

Tear the sachet, bag in the cup, water just off the boil.

      Dunk.

A few dunks as it brews helps it along.

      Steep.

Five minutes for the full cup — three if you like it lighter.

      Enjoy.

Lift the bag out and drink. That's it.

      How they're made.

Each bag holds 15g of the Gatta Heirloom lot — an anaerobic natural from Sidama, Ethiopia — roasted by Bailies in Belfast, then ground and sealed under nitrogen the same day. The seal locks the coffee at its freshest, so a bag opened months from now brews the way it did in week one. At its best for twelve months.

      Questions

Are the brew bags the same quality as your whole beans?

Yes — it's a single-origin specialty lot, cupped and scored the same way as everything else we sell, roasted by Bailies in Belfast. The only difference is that we grind and seal it for you.

How is it different from instant coffee?

Entirely. Instant is brewed coffee that's been dehydrated; this is fresh-ground specialty coffee that brews in your cup, the way loose-leaf tea does. Five minutes in hot water and you'll taste the difference.

      How long do they keep?

Twelve months at their best. Each bag is sealed under nitrogen the day the coffee is ground, so the freshness is locked in until you open it.

      How strong will it be?

Steep for five minutes for the full cup — three if you like it lighter. Dunking the bag as it brews helps it along.

      Can I compost them?

The brew bag itself, yes — once you've drunk the coffee, bag and grounds go in the compost together. The outer sachet is what holds the nitrogen seal, so it's plastic by necessity — it goes in the household recycling with soft plastics.
