Purpose-Built Design.

The 120mm diameter and vertical walls are engineered for whisking.

Unlike a cereal bowl, the steep sides contain the liquid during vigorous whisking, allowing you to build a thick, micro-foam froth without spilling.

Hand-Thrown in Co. Sligo

Crafted by John Ryan Ceramics. Each piece is individually thrown on the wheel, meaning no two bowls are identical. You are holding a unique piece of Irish art, finished with a deep blue glaze chosen to contrast beautifully with vibrant green matcha.

Barista Tested.

The exact same bowl used by our baristas to prepare thousands of ceremonial matcha drinks in Coffeeangel shops.

The Maker

John Ryan Ceramics: Based in the shadow of Benbulben, Co. Sligo. John blends traditional Irish pottery techniques with contemporary, minimalist forms.

Why this bowl.

Purpose‑built for matcha. The 120 mm diameter and gently flared walls create ideal space for whisking with a bamboo chasen, helping you build a fine, even foam with minimal effort.

Contemporary Irish craftsmanship. Each piece is hand‑thrown and glazed by John Ryan Ceramics, echoing the clean lines and tactile feel of Coffeeangel’s Contemporary Collection mugs, jugs and ramekins.

Deep blue, café‑tested glaze. A rich, pool‑like blue interior sets off the vivid green of Okumidori matcha while providing excellent visual contrast for assessing texture and colour during preparation.

Everyday‑ready stoneware. High‑fired stoneware offers excellent heat retention and durability for daily use in both professional and home settings.

A considered coffee & tea ritual. Pairs beautifully with Coffeeangel’s matcha tools and ceramics, allowing guests and home drinkers to recreate the calm, precise ritual experienced in our shops.

How to use.

  1. Warm the bowl with hot water, then dry.
  2. Sift 1–2 teaspoons of Coffeeangel Okumidori ceremonial matcha into the centre.
  3. Add a small amount of hot water (around 70–80 °C) and whisk briskly in a “W” motion with the Fugetsu Resin Matcha Whisk until a fine foam forms.
  4. Top up with water or milk to taste, then pour into your chosen cup or glass to serve.

This prepares matcha in the same way Coffeeangel baristas do in‑store, using the bowl as a working vessel for precise, consistent results every time.
