Most people who care about coffee at home give up on it the moment they leave the house. Hotel rooms, rented kitchens, sites, ferries, in-laws. It does not have to be that way, and the fix is not a compromise — it is a hand grinder, an AeroPress and two minutes.

What is in it

• Whirly 01S hand grinder. Steel burrs, adjustable, and the reason this set works at all. Grinding fresh does more for the cup than any other single thing you can buy.
• AeroPress Original. The most forgiving brewer made. Nearly unbreakable, and it rinses clean in ten seconds under a tap — which matters more than you would think in a hotel bathroom.
• Coffeeangel MiiR tumbler. Vacuum insulated, in 8oz or 12oz. Brew straight into it and drink it on the way out the door.
• Sú Beatha, 250g. Roasted by us in Dublin. Take it whole bean, or ground for the AeroPress if you would rather not be turning a grinder at six in the morning.

How to brew it

15g of coffee, 250g of water just off the boil, two minutes, then press. It is the same recipe wherever you are, and it does not care what the kettle looks like.
