Overview

This wonderful, fully washed microlot from the northern Cauca region of Colombia is truly a cooperative effort. The majority of the farming families are members of the indigenous Nasa group who live on small farms traditionally less than 1 ha in size. The group is committed to working not only as one with the planet, but also as a tight-knit unit and don’t hire any outside labour during the harvest season, instead preferring to take turns picking, sorting, and delivering to the co-op with each other.

These small producers are part of the COMEPCAFE Cooperative based in Piendamo, Cauca. The Coop helps to support their members with technical support, commercialisation of the coffees, food security programs as well as a pension program looking to protect the producers in the future. The areas that these coffees come from are still very much involved in the troubles with them being heavily influenced by the FARC and illicit drug trade making life very difficult for these producers.
