The benefit of the cloth filter is that some of the coffees precious oils are allowed through, whilst totally preventing any grounds. This can create a sublimely balanced, bodied and nuanced cup.
It is vitally important to note that the cloth filter does require an amount of TLC. It must be immediately and thoroughly rinsed after each use and not allowed to dry out – otherwise you risk nasty smells &/or taste… and the filter must then be replaced. The filter’s life span can be extended simply by putting into a Ziploc bag and then into the fridge or freezer after a thorough cleaning.
